Tawas Bay Area Outdoors
Four Seasons of Fun
Spring
The reopening of the Farm Market and the annual Birding Festival arrive on Spring’s gentle breezes, accompanied by the familiar sight of lady slippers. Miles of bike trails, calm lakes and winding rivers offer you the opportunity to capture springtime in the Tawases. Marvel at the sight of a sleepy newborn fawn at Tuttle Marsh or catch a glimpse of outstanding migrating warblers near Tawas Point Lighthouse…these are sure signs that Spring is in the air “Up North.”
Summer
Summertime means fun in the sun on our famous sugar-sand beaches. Browse one of Summer’s many craft, art and antique festivals. Enjoy a day of boating, kiteboarding or fishing on our inland lakes or out on the big waters of Lake Huron or Tawas Bay. Perhaps you’ll challenge yourself at one of the numerous area golf courses. From blues festivals to the county fair to multiple live performers in area establishments, music is woven into our local fabric. Whatever your choice, as your Summer day winds down, a smile will most likely grace your lips!
Autumn
With lavish brushstrokes of gold and crimson, Autumn arrives and the scenic byways of Iosco County take center stage. This is a perfect time to visit Lumberman’s Monument, take a hike, ride ORV trails, or simply enjoy the rivers and wildlife unique to Northeast Michigan. Watch Great Lakes freighters on their final voyages of the season, or take a trip aboard the River Queen paddleboat to witness the magnificent reflection of Autumn foliage on the historic Au Sable River.
Winter
Wrapped in a blanket of white, the Tawases become a playground of Winter activities. Wildlife endures with us during Old Man Winter’s glory days. With miles of groomed cross-country ski and snowmobile trails, frozen lakes for fishing, a snowbox derby and Perchville (Michigan’s oldest winter carnival), there is always something to help keep you warm and entertained here.
